Summer Scents

June 28th, 2010

I was walking my dog, Bruce, around my parents cul-de-sac and I noticed a huge lavender bush growing around our mailbox. I had been looking for lavender several months ago to make dryer sachets, and was unable to find any locally. But now – opportunity was staring me in the face! Time to harvest some lavender!

Isn’t it beautiful!?

And this was only about 1/10 of what was growing around the mailbox!

It smelled soo good.  And after about 30 minutes of stripping the lavender buds off, I had filled this big bag!

I’ve already cut out squares from scrap fabric to make about a dozen or so sachets.  I can’t wait to share!  Until next time!

Wedding Crafts

June 25th, 2010

By the number of orders I’ve been receiving for wedding items, I can definitely say that wedding season is in full swing!

First, I’d like to share these ridiculously adorable pictures of Miss Grace modeling her flower girl dress.   I wish I had before pictures to show how HUGE this dress was on her!   This was my first ‘bridal’ alteration I’ve done, and I have to say that I am quite proud of the results.   And while the color choices for the dress are well, interesting (haha), you can’t deny the fact that Miss Grace is simply adorable.  She sure knows how to react to a camera!

Just look at her pose – hilarious.

I think it’s time for this little diva to be put into a pageant.

Bustin’ a move, haha.
Next up, I designed a ring bearer pillow for my cousin’s wedding.  Her colors are red, cream, and black, and with my theme being vintage summer, I decided to give this pillow a vintage/victorian feel.
If you look closely, I added a little pearl and silver bead to the center of the rose.  So romantic.
I can’t wait to see pictures from the wedding, my cousin is going to make such a beautiful bride!
That’s all for now, but I did want to let you all know that I’m finalizing an order for my first ever wedding invitation set!  I’m so excited to share the results with you all!!  Until next time!

Vintage Father’s Day Gift

June 21st, 2010

My Dad loves to collect vintage items from his ‘younger years,’ and I really wanted to give him something for Father’s Day that he would cherish like he does his others items.

He has been writing and recording radio commercials for several hundreds of clients over the past 30+ years (among the other amazing things he does for the marketing company that he owns and operates with my Mom and myself). I can remember as a kid going into his office and watching him record these commercials on the old school reel-to-reel recording equipment.

With the help of friend, I was able to acquire one of those old recording tapes. And I turned it into a vintage keepsake for Father’s Day – a unique clock.

As I guessed, he absolutely loved it!

I can’t wait to see where he hangs it in his office.

Happy Father’s Day!

Summer Planter Tutorial

June 14th, 2010

Remember these plain (but cheap!) boxes I got at Ross a couple of weeks ago?

Well, they’ve been finished for awhile, and I’m just now getting around to posting.  Ridiculous, I know!

Anyways, I just loved the vintage feel to these boxes, especially the worn look they had.  But they really needed something, a splash of color for summer!

So first, I used some masking tape and taped straight lines around the boxes, leaving between one and four inches between each line.  Then, using some brightly colored wood paint and a sponge brush, I painted onto the boxes where the tape didn’t cover.

I waited about a half hour, and then applied a second coat.  I really wanted the colors to pop!   Wait about an hour, and peel off the tape.

Cute right!?  And because I was going to use these as planters, the final step was to drill drainage holes.  Using a basic drill, I put a handful of holes in the bottom of each box.

And you’re finished!

Happy planting everyone!

Finally Finished!

June 14th, 2010

So this is embarrassing, but I FINALLY finished my Mom’s mother day gift and gave it to her today.  Ridiculous, I know.

She had asked me to make her a tennis tote, like the one below.

But she wanted a print that would set her tote apart from all of the other ladies – and this is how it turned out!

The outside is made of coral print outdoor decor canvas.  You can find it at Joann’s.

This tote has MEGA storage.  On top of having four outer pockets, it also has an outside zipper pocking on the back!

And I added an extra interior zipper pocket.

My mom L-O-V-E-S it.  As you can see, she stuffed it full!

Before I go, I wanted to let you all know Emily at The Rubber Punkin is celebrating the release of her new stamp set, called Barefoot Summer!  This card is my favorite!

So pretty!  Go over to her site and see what else has been created with the Barefoot Summer stamp set!

I’ve got a tutorial headed your way for super cute vintage looking planters!  So stay tuned!
