Just wanted to give you a sneak peak of the latest belt I created!
Made with real leather and an elastic band, this belt is going to get plenty of use this winter! Keep an eye out for this belt and others in the store soon!
If you weren’t already aware, my Mom, my sister and me are HUGE Pittsburgh Steelers fan. And when I say huge, I mean crazy fans. To give you an idea of how crazy, here is a picture of the three of us and my Gram celebrating during the 2008 Super Bowl…
We look ridiculous, haha. Ok, here’s a follow up photo to save face haha.
Ahh, much better!
Well today is my Mom’s birthday, and I thought it would be nice to make her a wreath that she can hang on game days. I’ve been seeing a lot of beautiful yarn wreaths floating around on etsy, so I decided to give it a try myself. And while it was definitely time consuming, the process was very easy! So I put together a little tutorial for you all.
For this project you’ll need a wreath form, yarn, sewing pins, batting, and some felt. First, take your batting, and cut a long strip that is about 6 inches wide, and then pin one end to the wreath. **I’m not sure what kind of wreath this is (straw maybe?), but I left the plastic on to avoid any shedding.**
Once you have pinned your batting, start wrapping it around the wreath until it is completely covered.
Next, take your base yarn, knot it around the wreath, and secure it to the wreath with a pin.
Now, pop in a movie and start wrapping! If you run out of yarn, want to change colors, or find yourself stuck in an impossible knot, simply cut your yarn, tie on another piece, secure the knot with a pin, and continue wrapping. Just be sure to catch the tails of the knot as you continue wrapping. And when you’re finished, secure the end with a pin, and tuck the tail under the wrapped yarn.
For mine, I decided to give it a little bit more color, so I took some grey yarn and added stripes to the wreath. I also added some felt flowers – also attached to the wreath with pins.
Happy Birthday Mom – here’s to another great Steeler season!
Congratulations to commenter #4!

Have a great weekend everyone!
There is so much going on this month, and I’m starting to feel the time crunch! This weekend is JMU’s Homecoming (yay!) and I have a few projects in the works that I need to finish up tonight. I also decided to host a Halloween party next weekend, so my roommate and I have been working on spooky decorations this week. I finally remembered to take pictures of two of the new pieces of decor, and both are really simple to make! This first one was inspired by the Pumpkin Basket tutorial from Martha Stewart:
I bought one orange and one white foam pumpkin and followed Martha’s instructions. I do have to warn you, cutting a foam pumpkin can be quite tedious. And by the way – that’s me and my friend Jules from JMU on spring break a couple of years ago. I’m so excited because I get to see her this weekend at Homecoming!
After I cut out the basket handle, I inserted some floral foam (actually, my friend Sarah did it for me, because I cannot stand the feel of it, it gives me the chills!) and then began adding flowers until I thought they looked full enough.
I really love the white pumpkin. I’m going to pull out my milk glass collection and see if I can get an arrangement going.
And remember at the beginning of the week I showed you how I recycled my old wreath into a new spooky one for Halloween? Well, I took the yellow flowers, gave them a light coat of black spray paint and some spider webs and voila!
Just a little taste of the spooky transformation that my apartment is going through!
