Welcome Home, Britton!

May 27th, 2011

Baby Britton was born last week, and to celebrate her arrival I sent her a little care package for when she got home.  In it I included:

A baby Elephant, to match the baby gift set I sent her a few months back

The Elephant also follows along nicely with her jungle bedroom theme :)

I also sent her a little newborn onesie, with ruffles on the bum – too cute!

I can’t wait to see pics of Baby Britton in her ruffle onesie :)

Congratulations to Crystal and Chris, and welcome home Britton!

Baby Love

May 9th, 2011

A few months ago, my childhood friend contacted me and asked if I would be interested in creating a baptismal gown for her newborn son from her wedding gown.  Needless to say, I was extremely flattered by the request, and immediately said yes.  What a wonderful way to re-purpose a wedding gown!

She gave me complete artistic freedom to create whatever I wanted, but asked that it not be too feminine.  Here’s what the gown looked like prior to alterations (sorry about the quality of the photos, I forgot to charge my camera):

You can’t really tell by the photos, but the dress had 2 layers of a silky chiffon underneath, with 2 layers of a soft crinoline overlay.  Very classic.

I have made children’s clothing from scratch before without a pattern, but just to be sure everything came out perfect, I selected this pattern, Burda 9804, using pattern B without the pleated front:

And the results!

And the back:

Like I said, very simple.  But I also made her a little petticoat from the crinoline to add if she ever has a baby girl (to make it more feminine), and a diaper cover as well – both of which I forgot to take photos of.  Oh well.

Hopefully they got some good pics of the baby in the gown!  When I get them I’ll be sure to share.

Do you have any clothes that have been re-purposed into something else?  Share them on my Facebook Wall!  I’d love to see :)

Check back on Wednesday, when Emily at The Rubber Punkin shares her next installment of the New to You series!

Life is Ruff

February 14th, 2011

I’ve definitely had my fair share of ups and downs lately.  The ups so far this year have included ridiculous and amazing times with my friends, Jersedays (yes, as in Jersey Shore on Thursday nights), snuggles with the puppies, and a few exciting crafts here and there.  And then there’s the down, the big big big big down.  Since the new year I’ve been STRUGGLING with my dysfunctional gallbladder.  And for those of you who have had gallbladder issues, I feel your pain!  It is NOT fun, it is RIDICULOUSLY time consuming, and most of all, TIRING.

I HATE MY GALLBLADDER.

So if you’ve been curious as to what I have been up to lately, the answer is simple: NOTHING.  And it is SO boring.  Being sick for a prolonged period of time is driving me absolutely crazy.

My days mostly consist an hour or two where I force myself to eat, even though I know it will only be a matter of minutes before I start to feel ill.  Several hours on the couch, laid out, watching tv, and trying to forget the pain (thank god for Jerseday!).  And naps with my puppies, Bruce and Lucy.  And those pups sure do know how to put a smile on my face!  I mean really, they are too stinking cute!

Yes Bruce, life sure would be “ruff” without you!

To keep me distracted this week, I finally broke out the sewing machine (halleluja!) and made these adorable dresses for Miss Grace and Miss Raiden – can’t wait to get some pics of them!

And, I started a costume for Bishop McDevitt’s spring musical (my alma mater!) and almost finished a baby gift – will have to post more pics tomorrow!

Until then, enjoy your Valentine’s Day everyone!

Scrap Ribbon Headband

March 4th, 2010

Welcome back to my third post of Blueprint Craft’s month long GREEN quest!

If you’re like me, you always have just enough ribbon left over from a project that you figure you might as well save it because you know you will need it later.  Then days, weeks, months, years (cough, cough) go by and you still haven’t used that ribbon.  Well fear not friends!  I have found the perfect project for leftover ribbon!

Today I’d like to introduce you to Becca, from Blue Cricket Design.  I recently came across her wonderful tutorial on how to put those ribbon scraps to use!  Introducing the Ruffled Headband tutorial!

Using two pieces of ribbon 20″ long, a cheap headband that I bought at 5 and Below, and this simple tutorial, I was able to create this little beauty!

The ribbon was actually leftover from the Mr. Bluebird Apron, so I haven’t had it stashed for too long!

It’s a bit hard to tell in the picture, but I paired the bright blue with a dark purple headband.  I’ll probably end up giving it to Miss Grace!

Since this project was so simple to do, I decided to add an extra Scrappy Headband tutorial to this post!  All you need is a thin headband (like the one above), and a strip of fabric that is about 2″ wide and the length of your headband plus about 2″.  I didn’t take pictures while I was doing this, but if you follow this tutorial from Cally at Calico, you’ll achieve the same thing!

It is such an easy project, and so adorable!  I think this is scrap fabric from a wine tote I made awhile back.

It would be a perfect gift to put in goody bags at a children’s birthday party!  And I just love this little bow – so petite!

And to help show off the cuteness of this little headband, Miss Grace was more than willing to help model it!

It fits just right!  As soon as she put it on, I knew she would be taking it home!

She is such a cutie pie!  Grace loves the camera, and the camera definitely loves her!

Well that’s all for now!  My next post won’t be until Sunday, but it will be a good one … I’m going to be sharing a tutorial on how to create an elastic headband out of scrap fabrics and introducing my first ever GIVEAWAY!

So stay tuned! And remember, if you’re following along or have finished any of the Green tutorials or similar projects that I’ve featured, make sure you take a copy of the button below and leave a link in the comments section!

Until next time!

The Recycled Dress Shirt

March 1st, 2010

The other day, my roomie, Jaron, and I were getting ready to go out to dinner when he found a hole in his favorite button up shirt – sigh.  But being as crafty and quick as I am, I told him to turn that frown upside down!  You’re shirt will live to see another day!  We will RECYCLE it into something new!

So here we go – this is the shirt as it was originally intended to look (the hole was somewhere around the pocket):

For weeks I had been promising Miss Grace that I would make her a dress that she could wear to school and show off to her friends (she’s 4, and already a fashionista!).  So I decided that Jaron’s shirt should turn into a t-shirt dress for Grace.  And per her request, it must include ruffles and pink, duh.

So I browsed around the net, and came across this great tutorial from Dana at MADEShirt Dress Tutorial.  I didn’t follow the tutorial exactly, but you can definitely see the similarities!

How cute is that!?

Complete with ruffles!

And a pink cinched belt around the waist!

I just love it!

Next time Jaron gets a hole in his shirt, I might have to think about recycling it into something for myself!

So you’re probably wondering, did Grace absolutely love it!?  I don’t know, you tell me – cue Right Said Fred, “I’m Too Sexy”:

I’m too sexy for my shirt, too sexy for my shirt, so sexy it hurts.

And I’m too sexy for Milan, too sexy for Milan, New York and Japan!

I’m too sexy for your party, too sexy for your party, no way I’m disco dancing!

I’m a model, you what I mean.  And I do my little turn on the catwalk!
Yeah on the catwalk, on the catwalk!

I do my little turn on the catwalk!

She is just too darn cute!  I think the dress was a hit!  As soon as she walked into my house she wanted to put it on.

I’m so glad she liked it, and it fit so well!

Before I go, I want to share some more details with you for our Green Month!  This week, I will be sharing with you more crafty gifts that can be made from scraps or other recycled materials, like holey shirts!  Check out this weeks schedule:

*AND* at the end of each week I’ll be featuring a GIVEAWAY!  So stay tuned!
