Leprechaun Pie!

March 16th, 2010

So I’ve been holding onto these baby food jars my friend Ashley has been giving me for some time now.  And yesterday I decided to put them to good use!  While this project was not originally on my list for this week, I just had to include it!  Today, I’ll be showing you how to repurpose empty baby food jars and make Leprechaun Personal Pies, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day!

First thing you need to do is gather approximately 10 baby jars.  Be sure to take off the label and run them through the dishwasher.

Next, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 12 oz of White Chocolate Chips (or one bag)
  • 1/2 cup Whipping Cream
  • 8 oz. Cream Cheese, softened (or one package)
  • 1 tsp. Green Food Coloring
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Cups Whipping Cream, Whipped Until Stiff
  • 2 Graham Cracker Crusts (I was lazy and didn’t make my own!)
  • 1 package Andes Mints

Cooking Instructions:

  1. In a large, microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate and 1/2 cup of the whipping cream. Microwave on high power, 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time, until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  2. With an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese, the green food coloring, the vanilla or peppermint extract and the powdered sugar into the chocolate mixture until everything is evenly blended.
  3. With an electric mixer, beat 2 cups of whipping cream until it is stiff.  Gently fold the whipped cream into the white (or green rather!) chocolate mixture, taking care not to deflate the cream, until no white streaks remain.
  4. Take your baby food jars, fill them about 1/4 of the way up with crushed graham crumb crust.
  5. Pour the whipped chocolate mixture into the jars until they are about 3/4 full.  Basically, just don’t fill them to the top.
  6. Secure the lids back on the jars and allow to chill in the refrigerator for about 4 hours or overnight.

After you have allowed the pies to chill, reopen then and place an Andes mint in each jar.  Looks so yummy!

Replace your caps – and now for a surprise!  To give these personal pies a little pizazz (I love alliteration), I created these toppers for the lids – and you can download them here for free!

And to give these little pies a bit more flare, I zig-zag stitched the tops to scraps of green fabric.

And then secured them to the tops of the jars with a yellow hair tie.

Cute, simple, and recycled!  Perfect for the Green month theme, and St. Patrick’s Day!

If you download the toppers and make your own personal pies, please email me or leave a link of the pictures!

Green Giveaway Winners!

March 12th, 2010

Time to announce the winners from my first Green Giveaway!

For the giveaway via the Blueprint Crafts blog – Crystal is the winner of the reusable gift bag!

And for the Facebook giveaway – Erin is the winner of the reusable wine bag!

Congratulations to both, I hope you enjoy!

Tomorrow I’ll be posting a tutorial on how to construct pillow covers – but in the meantime, I’ll share these beauties that I whipped up for a couple of orders and another FREE recipe card printable!

First up, we have a hobo bag I custom made for my friend Ashley:

This was my first purse with a zippered pocket!  So proud of myself, haha.

And I made this apron/hotpad/recipe card set as well.

I just love this color red with the damask pattern.

And my friend requested it have a punk edge to it, so I used that for inspiration with these recipe cards!

I used the same layout as the Mr. Bluebird recipe cards.

I just love the way they turned out!

And because they are so cute, I’ve made them available for you to download and customize!  Click here to go to the download page.

Until tomorrow!

A Second Look …

February 22nd, 2010

I just wanted to upload this set of pictures that I took of the Mr. Bluebird recipe cards this afternoon.

I just LOVE the way these turned out – I think I’ll have to start creating recipe cards with each apron I make!

More Wedding Bells – and Gifts!

February 21st, 2010

Last Friday my great friend and mentor, Nancy, got married!  She had requested that I make her and her husband a set of placemats and napkins like I did for Crystal’s wedding.  But this time, I decided to switch it up a little.  Nancy has a circular table on her back porch, so I decided to give the Round-Table Wedge Placemats tutorial a try from Sew4Home (I just LOVE their site!).

Each placemat is reversible, and came with matching napkins!  I also included a matching hostess apron.

She was so excited when she opened them – I’m thinking about using the left over fabric to make her some outdoor pillows to match!

I also recently finished up a Mr. Bluebird Apron for an order for my Mom, and as an added bonus, I whipped up these matching recipe cards!

I also created a customizable PDF version for you to download and use as you wish.  Click here to go to the download page!

Until next time!

My Etsy Shop is Open!

February 1st, 2010

It’s finally here!  Take a look: Blueprint Crafts

I also wanted to share with you a new project I just finished.  It’s my Gramma’s birthday this Saturday, and she LOVES big purses.  But instead of going the obvious route and using a tutorial from somewhere around the internet, I decided to come up with one on my own!  Presenting to you, the Frances Bag!

It’s approximately 18″ long x 15″ wide!  Perfect for Gramma!  And for a little something extra, I added this darling felt flower brooch.

It also has great inside pockets – one side having just a large pocket:

And the other side having a large pocket, and two smaller ones:

I just love the way it turned out!  I can’t wait to make more with different variations.  And as promised, I will have a step by step tutorial coming soon!

In the meantime, I finally got around to taking pics of the Valentine’s Printables I created.

These gift tags are my fave!

I’m thinking about adding a few more components and selling these in my Etsy shop … thoughts??

Oh!  And before I go, I want to share this picture with you … I’ll be using these beads to create more items for my Etsy shop!

Annnd, if you haven’t noticed yet – the white header won from last time’s post!  You’ll be seeing that for quite awhile now :)

Until next time!
