Ch-ch-changes!

July 5th, 2012

So when I moved into Chris’ house back in  November, this is what the kitchen originally looked like:

Cabinets are in great condition – but that wallpaper!

It was blue with cream seashells and EVERYWHERE!

And don’t you love this matchy matchy lighting?  :)

Well, we decided it had to go (light and all).  So, we scored it, sprayed it with wallpaper remover, waited, and began removing…..

And 8 months later, and over 100 hours of work we finally have blank walls!  I know, you’re thinking WHAT!?  100 hours??  Yeah, I’m serious!  As I was removing the wallpaper I realized that this crap had been put up without priming the walls first, so it refused to come off.  Then, I realized that it had been installed prior to the cabinets being installed – AWESOME RIGHT!?

So if you come across gnarly wallpaper like mine that refuses to come down, I suggest first scoring the paper, then spraying down with fabric softener, then steaming off.  This was the ONLY effective way to get my wallpaper down, and for a room that is about 12″ x 10″ it still took 100 hours.

Anyways!  Now, it looks like this:

I have never loved white walls so much in my life :)

I’m currently painting right now!  Here are the colors we brought home to choose from.  Which do you think we picked??

Can’t wait to get this room finished!  Will be back tomorrow to share the finished results!

Beach Babes at Old Navy!

July 2nd, 2012

I was recently given another offer from Crowtap to review Old Navy’s beach accessories, and in return myself and three friends would receive a handful of goodies – of course I said yes!  So I gathered up my friends and headed to our local Old Navy.  First up, we checked out their selection of flip flops.  We were pleasantly surprise to see some new colors!

Our favorites were the super bright, day-glo colors!  Hot red, hot pink, and hot yellow!

Next, onto the sunglasses.  They had a pretty nice selection!

These were Aubrey and Gina’s final choices – looking good ladies!

Then we got to pick up some beach towels – can never have enough of those!

And to finish up, we all chose a beach bag to tote our new beach accessories home in!  Thanks Crowtap and Old Navy!

We had such a great time, and a big thanks to the Old Navy management who helped us pick out our awesome new accessories!  We will be back soon for sure!

I’ll be back again this week with a new tutorial, so be sure to check back!

Meet Shakira

June 22nd, 2012

So I picked up this display mannequin yesterday for a whopping $75 (can you believe it!?).  And I asked my Facebook friends what they thought I should name her.

I got a ton of responses like Bessie Mae, Tess, Ivory, Coco Chanel, Gladys, Manda, Mona, Bare Beauty, Stella, and Vintage Victoria.  But one stood out.  My friend, Erica, suggested I name her Shakira because she guessed that her hips don’t lie.  I laughed so hard when I read her comment!  So Shakira is it!

PS – Erica just got married this weekend (congrats to her and Ryan!) and I did her Save the Dates and Invitations – here’s a look at how the invites came out :)

So the reason I picked up Miss Shakira was so I could get petty pictures of these lovely vintage items for my vintage shop Rhea’s Modern Vintage.  Modeled by my lovely sister and cousin, of course :D

Quick Fabric Tags

June 4th, 2012

Sorry it’s been a little quite around here.  I’ve been distracted this past week, trying to get everything together so I could fully appreciate this:

Go ahead, you can stare at that pic all day and pretend you are here with me :)

But I’ll quit torturing you, and give you a little surprise!  I actually planned ahead (what!?) and have a fun and easy tutorial for you guys!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been getting a ton of emails about my baby gift set that has gone viral on pinterest, mostly with the question of “how do you make your fabric tags?”  Well, I’ve put together a short and sweet tutorial on how to make them!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A sheet of Light T-Shirt Transfer
  • Printer
  • 7/8″ white twill tape
  • Iron

Using Photoshop (you could also use Word or any other text/graphic program), take your logo and shrink it so that it is 1/2″ tall.  Copy and paste several times to fill the page.  Once it’s filled flip the entire graphic so that it reads backwards.  Then print your backwards logos onto a sheet of the transfer paper.

Cut your logos out into strips, trimming as close to the logo as you can.

At your ironing board, turn your iron on to low heat.  Unroll your twill tape and place one of the strips on top of the tape, ink side down.  Iron over top the of transfer paper.  (You can save some time by ironing 2 logo strips side by side at a time.)

Allow to cool, and carefully peel the paper off of the twill tape.

Trim your twill tape – and voila!  Fabric labels for your hand sewn goodies!

I recently made these for a custom order I received for another baby gift set – turned out SO cute!

Isn’t that paisley print adorable!?  Next week, I’ll be revisiting the tutorials on how to make a set like this.

Anyways, I’m off to go play in the sand!  Until next time :)

PS – Have you checked out my facebook page recently?  I’ve been sharing all of the lovely tile coaster pics you guys have been sending me.  Go check it out!  And if you would like me to share pics of your tile coasters, please email me!
